October 16, 2007 - Construction began on the future site of the first Somnio Hostel. Thanks to our neighbors for their patience during this process!

October 19, 2007 - A lot of progress has been made so far in demolition.  All of the existing ceilings have been removed, as well as a few wooden dividers that were in place. It's much easier to get a sense of the future layout of the hostel.  The only snag we've hit so far has been in the plumbing.  We're eager to ensure that water pressure in all our sinks and showers is the best it can possibly be, so we might have to add a few more days of work onto our plan.

October 24, 2007 - Demolition continues.  Our nice oak floors are covered so that they are protected during construction.  Old bathroom fixtures have been removed and the carpenter has started his work.

November 15, 2007 - Demolition is completed, and new walls are being built. The wiring and plumbing has begun.

December 20, 2007 - All of the walls are up and plastered. We've picked out the tiles and fixtures for the bathrooms. Our kitchen/office area is almost complete. The plumbing and electricity are all finished. Most of the carpentry is completed.

January 16, 2008 - The ceilings are almost finished. The first coat of primer paint is going on the ceilings and the walls this week. All of the bathrooms are tiled, and the fixtures just arrived for installation. Work has begun on the curved wall we're installing in the lobby as well as our reception desk and bar. Everything is on track to put the finishing touches on things in February and open in March.

January 31, 2008 - We're about 2 weeks away from completing construction. Nearly all of the painting has been done, and the floors are sanded. The lobby looks fantastic.

February 14h, 2008 - It's just the finishing touches left now and cleaning. The floors have been re-finished and look fantastic. The lobby work is almost complete. All of our fire-alarm system is done. All that is left are the installation of the key-card door locks, installation of some of the bathroom fixtures, a few windows to be replaced, a good scrub and some touch ups. Here are new pictures of the floors and the lobby.

March 2, 2008 - We're opening in four days! Construction is complete, aside from a few last minute touch ups and some major cleaning. We're starting to set up all of the rooms with beds and furniture. Here's the latest picture of the lobby.

March 7, 2008 - Construction and cleaning are done, and we're ready for our first guests!
