The name Somnio means to dream in Latin or, by some definitions, to imagine foolishly.    Frustrated by the stress of finding clean, safe, quality lodging, two sisters from Chicago dreamed of a solution to leave young travelers with more time and energy to spend enjoying everything the great travel destinations of the world have to offer.  After working in the buttoned-up world of banking and sneaking in travel opportunities whenever possible, they smashed their piggy banks and headed to Spain to put their travel expertise to use. 

Why waste another minute sorting through hundreds of hostel reviews or hauling bags hostel to hostel when there are breathtaking views to stumble upon and local watering holes to enjoy?  With the founding of Somnio's flagship hostel in Barcelona, the concept of well-branded, standard quality hostels is now a reality. 

After months of construction, we opened our doors in March 2008.
